A native of Virginia, Chris Spencer attended Berklee College of Music where he completed his undergraduate degree in performance. He then served four years in the U.S. Air Force Band as guitarist and staff arranger before completing graduate work in business administration and moving to Seattle in 1998.

As a freelance musician, Spencer has performed at the Ballard Jazz Festival, Earshot Jazz Festival, Ellensburg Jazz in the Valley, Port Townsend Jazz Festival, Bellingham Art of Jazz Series, and Bumbershoot Arts Festival.  He has studied with guitarists Bret Wilmot and Mick Goodrick as well as pianist Charlie Banacos and saxophonist Bob Newman. Spencer is also an experienced audio engineer/sound designer, founding SophiaHat Studios in 2000, an audio recording facility located in North Seattle.
