Becca Duran

Adjunct Instructor, Jazz Voice

Originally from Los Angeles, California, Becca Duran is an accomplished jazz singer known for the beauty of her sound, excellent time, and superb phrasing. Her singing matches flexibility and purity of tone with intelligence, wit and sensuality. Since the 1970s, Duran has performed with some of the finest jazz instrumentalists to grace the Seattle jazz scene including Red Kelly, Julian Priester, Jay Thomas, Joni Metcalf, Jim Knapp, Dave Peterson, Denny Goodhew, Chuck Deardorf, Dave Coleman, and Marc Seales. She has also recorded with Cedar Walton and Billy Higgins, and can be heard on the Discovery, Stash, Emerald City, and Pony Boy labels. In 2001 Seattle’s Earshot Jazz organization presented Duran with the Golden Ear Award as Vocalist of the Year. Her recent projects include a Brazilian flavored CD entitled Song for Rita and a standards project entitled If You Could See Me Now, both on the Merrimack label.
