Class Reserve materials are kept at the circulation desk in both the Main Library and in the Music Department Office for Music and Dance students. These materials are placed on reserve at the request of faculty and consist of the required readings for courses which are currently in session. Course materials may include books, journal articles, CDs, video tapes, slides or other materials.
How to look up reserve titles:
1. You can search your course number in the library catalog
http://catalog.cornish.edu/ReserveFind.asp
to see a list of titles on reserve for that class.2. Current reserve lists are kept in a binder at the circulation desk. These lists are arranged alphabetically by the professor's last name.
The circulation policy for course reserves is as follows:
The due date is stamped on the item.
A valid Cornish ID is required to check reserve items out. Up to 3 items may taken at a time. If you have any questions about course reserves, please ask the staff member at the circulation desk.
WHAT TO PLACE ON RESERVE
RESERVE LOCATIONS
Depending on where your class meets, you have the option of placing materials
on reserve at the Main Library or the Music Department Office in Kerry (for
Music and Dance students only). Please be sure to tell your students where you
are putting the reserves since we do not have the classes cross referenced at
both locations.
CIRCULATION OPTIONS
2-Hour / Library-Use-Only materials
must be used in the library for 2 hours.
Overnight loans are due back by the
end of business hours the next day.
3 Day loans
are due back by the end of business hours on the third day.
1 Week loans
are due back by the end of business hours on the seventh day.
LENGTH OF TIME MATERIALS ARE KEPT ON RESERVE
Materials can be placed on reserve for the duration of a semester and will be
removed from reserve afterwards unless you have made other arrangements with
the Librarian before the end of the semester.
WANT TO SEE WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE ON RESERVE?
1. You can search your course number in the library catalog http://catalog.cornish.edu/ReserveFind.asp
to see a list of titles on reserve for that class.
2. Current reserve lists are kept in a binder at the circulation desk. These
lists are arranged alphabetically by the professor's last name.
HOW TO PLACE MATERIALS ON RESERVE
You can download a copy of the CLASS RESERVE FORM
here. Please fill it out completely and submit it to the Main Library circulation
desk or Sarah Mulvihill in the Music Office; wherever you want the material
on reserve. Allow three to five days for processing -- it takes time to process
the many lists we receive and staff is especially busy at the beginning of the
semester. To get a head start, bring your list in before classes start. Please
do not tell students the material is ready the same day you bring the list in.
COURSE PACKETS, COPYING AND COPYRIGHT
If you want students to have photocopies of entire course packets (large collections
of articles and excerpts from books), put a master copy at a nearby photo-copy
shop so students can buy copies directly. Don't put one copy on reserve in the
library and expect each student to copy it on the coin-op machine or walk it
to the nearest copy shop. If you want to have one copy in the library for students
who can't afford to purchase the packet we can put one on reserve for 2-hour/Library-Use-Only.
Library Reserves is not intended as a mechanism for skirting copyright permission.
