Assistant or Associate Professor of Voice

Department: Music

Reports to: Department Chair

Supervises: n/a

Pay Grade: Assistant or Associate Professor ranking commensurate with education and experience. Full-time

Teach beginning through advanced vocal students in a four-year program leading to a Bachelor of Music degree.

1. Teach courses in music curriculum as appropriate including:

• Jazz vocals, vocal pedagogy, vocal improvisation, and jazz vocal ensemble
• Electives and other coursework within area of specialization

2. Provide individual instruction in voice to music students

3. Participate in core faculty institutional service, including:

• Attending departmental faculty meetings and retreats
• Participating in departmental and College-wide committees
• Attending and evaluating music student recitals
• Participating in departmental admission auditions

4. Perform and record on a regular basis so as to maintain a national and/or international profile as a practicing vocal artist

• Master's degree and an active, established career and distinguished body of work; or Bachelor's degree for those artists of national or international stature
• At least three years of substantial teaching experience in a college setting
• A commitment to multicultural perspectives and ability to relate well with a diverse campus community
• Ability to represent the college well at a national level

• Proficiency in at least two vocal genres or traditions including jazz, classical, opera, music-theater, or another world music vocal tradition
• Conversant with jazz and classical harmonic language and theory
• Experience incorporating movement, acting, and body awareness into teaching voice
• Broad interests and exposure to all types of music and interdisciplinary arts
