Facilities Staff I/Groundskeeper

Compensation::
$13.25 - $14.00/hour DOE
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday; 7am - 3pm

Purpose
Assists Facilities Department personnel with up-keep and repairs of College facilities, equipment, and landscaping to help facilitate an effective learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Surveys buildings and grounds daily to identify needed repairs and landscaping work.
- Completes groundskeeping work including:
- removing litter, waste, graffiti, leaves, branches
- weeding, mowing, raking, and watering lawns and gardens, trimming, pruning, planting and fertilizing
- maintaining watering/sprinkler system
- operating and performing maintenance on power equipment
- maintaining accurate records of planned/executed landscape maintenance such as fertilizing schedules, tool preventative maintenance, types of plants and care
- in conjunction with Facilities Director, ordering/picking up materials
- removing snow and ice from walkways as necessary
- Assists in maintaining facilities by completing duties such as:
- prepping, sanding, and painting walls and ceilings
- changing light bulbs
- hanging bulletin boards, bathroom fixtures, fire extinguishers, etc.
- light electrical and plumbing
- identifying safety hazards and participating in finding solutions
- Assists in fulfilling work orders, such as:
- moving furniture and equipment
- assembling furniture
- providing set up for special events
- running errands
- Assists in larger capital projects including demolition and clean up.
- When assigned, serves as liaison between contractors and College and notifies college personnel of project activities.
- Accepts deliveries of products or equipment and routes them appropriately.
- Assist in emergency situations by:
- being on-call
- helping with clean-up and remediation
- performing other duties as assigned by Emergency Director or Deputy
- Assist Staff II personnel as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma plus one year relevant experience or combination of equivalent education and experience
- Valid WA state driver’s license and safe driving record
- Must pass background check
- Certified in CPR, First Aid and Blood-Borne Pathogens (training provided)
- Ability to work on call during emergencies and a varied schedule as hours may fluctuate based on the needs of the College
- Desire to perform quality work with or without direct supervision
- Ability to follow written, oral, and diagram directions effectively
- Good verbal communication skills and ability to work with a diverse campus community
- Working knowledge of hand tools and basic mechanical aptitude
- Knowledge of building and landscaping materials
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
- Ability to lift moderate to heavy weight (at least 50 lbs), and work in high places (ladders, roofs, etc.) and small spaces
- Ability to stand or walk throughout shift inside and out
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Outlook
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher education, not-for-profit, or arts environment
