Foundations Studio Supervisor

Department: Art
Reports to: Foundations Area Head and Art Department Chair
Supervises: Work Study Students
Pay Grade: $15 to $15.75/hour, DOE; non-exempt; Fantastic Benefits

Work Schedule:

Academic year, 17 weeks per semester; Full-time, schedule may vary semester to semester;  Start Date, 8/27/2012

Purpose

Provides support and assistance to the foundations faculty, assisting and advising students; maintains foundations studio facilities, budgets, and inventories.

Responsibilities

  1. Schedules and oversees open studio hours including: actively mentoring students in all areas of foundations presenting tool use demos including instructing students on the safe use of shop tools assisting students with fabrication needs – trouble shooting
  2. Maintains foundations studios by: monitoring inventory keeping equipment in working order cleaning or oversee cleaning studios daily purchasing supplies and equipment as needed from lab fee accounts
  3. Performs administrative duties including: completing purchase orders, accurately allocating expenses to appropriate general ledger accounts monitoring and tracking lab fee budgets
  4. Communicates with foundations faculty regarding the status of ongoing projects, budget expenditures, and issues and policies relating to the studios.
  5. Arrange details for full multi-class events: lectures, screenings, field trips, exhibitions, receptions, etc.
  6. Hires and supervises work-study students.
  7. Repairs and constructs support and furniture needs for the studio.
  8. Maintains and monitors the use of all digital equipment located in the Foundations classroom or faculty/staff offices.
  9. Supports art department projects including:
  10. assisting visiting artists in classes assisting with the hanging of artwork for shows or student critique
  11. Other duties as assigned or as developed from employee’s skill set.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Fine Arts degree plus two to three years relevant experience or combination of equivalent education and experience
  • Extensive experience with shop tools
  • Ability to assemble equipment
  • Good computer skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, students, and staff
  • Ability to relate well in diverse campus community
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Certified in CPR and basic first aid (training provided by college)
  • Must own a car, have automobile insurance, possess valid WA state driver’s license, and safe driving record (for purchasing supplies and handling equipment repairs)
  • Must pass background check
  • Ability to lift 50 to 75 pounds and climb ladders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in an art-based education or not-for-profit environment
  • Experience in purchasing supplies and staying in budget
