Nadya Zimmerman

Nadya Zimmerman completed her B.A. in English and Mathematics at the University of California Berkeley and received an M.A. and Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of California Los Angeles. She has lectured and published on topics including ideologies of resistance/revolution in the late Sixties, aesthetics of protest in African American musical cultures, and structures of repetition in post-Capitalist American consumer society. Her book, Counterculture Kaleidoscope: Musical and Cultural Perspectives on Late Sixties San Francisco, came out in 2008 with the University of Michigan Press. As a recent recipient of a Fulbright Professorship in Cyprus, Nadya taught courses in American cultural history and developed an island-wide Classical chamber music collective. In addition to being a longtime performing cellist, Nadya enjoys teaching Western and popular music history, Modern American Studies, and interdisciplinary Humanities courses.
