Miriam Bertram

Adjunct Instructor

mbertram@cornish.edu

Miriam Bertram received her B.A. in Biology from Brandeis University in Massachusetts, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Oceanography from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Her scientific publications include laboratory and field studies of the formation and dissolution of biologically produced minerals, including those impacted by warming temperatures (marine carbonates) and those that contain metals of economic value (iron and manganese oxides). Miriam has worked with climate scientists at the UW for the last 9 years, as Operations Specialist for the UW Program on Climate Change. She has taught oceanography, biology and environmental science at North Seattle Community College and is currently part of a team at the University of Washington developing a dual credit college/high school course in climate science. She has blended her experiences in how data is collected, including observations through submersible “windows”, those made through the electron microscope, with how data are communicated and understood, to create a new course, “Visualizing the Natural World”, to be offered at Cornish in Spring 2012.
