Cyan James

Adjunct Instructor

Cyan James holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of Michigan, and is currently earning a PhD in public health genetics from the University of Washington. She has a background in journalism, photography, health education, medical history, and disease surveillance. She has been awarded three Hopwoods, among other honors, and her poems, essays, and short stories have been published in literary journals including Barcelona Review, the Beloit Journal of Poetry, and Harvard Review. Cyan has taught creative writing, composition, and argumentative writing at the University of Michigan, medical advocacy at the University of Washington, and genes and the public at Cornish College of the Arts. Cyan is now teaching a course at Cornish on creativity and the science behind artistic inspiration.
