Chris Featherman
Adjunct Instructor
Chris Featherman holds a B.A. in English from the Pennsylvania State University and an M.A.T (ESOL) from the University of Washington, where he is completing a Ph.D. in Language and Rhetoric and has taught in both the Expository Writing and English Language Programs. He has presented his research in applied linguistics at major national conferences and published his creative writing in various U.S. literary magazines. His current research investigates discursive practices and the use of new media in global social movements. Before coming to Seattle to pursue his research interests in language and globalization, participatory culture, discourse theory and practice, and critical pedagogy, Chris taught for several years in Spain, Poland, Lithuania, and New York and has traveled widely. His expository writing classes at Cornish help students developing their existing critical thinking, reading, and writing skills while cultivating new strategies and habits of expression. They achieve this through collaborative, critical examination of public issues, everyday social practices, and the various ways that language and writing shapes and makes visible their social, artistic, and community identities.
