Design Department Computer Support Coordinator & Training Specialist

Department: Information Technology

Reports to: Design Department Chair and Information Technology Manager

Supervises: Work study students

Pay Grade: D; Non-exempt, Full-time; $40,000 - 44,000 DOE

Purpose:

Provides general administration, hardware and software support for the Design Department computing facilities and its user base. Provides extensive training for students and faculty. Provides leadership to tech-related work study crew.

Responsibilities:

1. Serves as the primary contact for digital technology support with the Design Department.


2. Takes the lead in providing the Design Department with an ongoing, comprehensive assessment of department tech-needs.


3. Crafts a schedule of routine and phase-sensitive tasks for the full calendar year.


4. Assesses, researches and makes recommendations about systems, hardware, software and production methods.


5. Negotiates with vendors, makes purchases authorized by Design Department Chair or Information Technology Manager.


6. Assures compliance with all Design Department license agreements. Manages all Mac platform software license agreements for the college.


7. Provides hardware support including maintaining and troubleshooting all Design Department (and those specified by IT) Apple/PC client and server machines, laptops and desktop computers, network

printers, and other peripherals. This includes network connectivity troubleshooting.


8. Provides software support including installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting software used by the department, including those installed on student-owned computers, faculty-owned computers, or computers on loan to faculty.


9. Provides leadership and direction to a core of tech-related work study students by:


10. Designs and implements regular training programs for Design students and faculty including:


11. In coordination with IT department, implements, maintains and updates all Design Department-related applications such as account management, email, print billing, and file storage for students, faculty and staff.


12. Identifies opportunities for and provides training specific to improved workflow, and provides ongoing, updated "best practices" and industry-specific technical seminars.


13. Other duties include support for IT Department tasks, and Apple support for other departments within the college.


14. Assists the IT Helpdesk as needed.


15. Special projects and other duties as assigned.
