Adjunct Instructor – “Film History”
Theater Department
The Theater Department seeks an Adjunct Instructor to teach the following course during the fall 2008 semester:
“Film History” (TH 264)
Course investigates the historical development of film with emphasis on the aesthetic, social, economic, and institutional forces that affect film production and reception. Students practice interpretive models based on disciplinary approaches from cinema studies, history, and cultural studies. Topics may include American genre cinema, pre-Code Hollywood, the French New Wave, films of the sixties, films of the seventies, and gay and lesbian film. Course may be repeated as topics change.
The course emphasis is on film history, not theory. Pedagogy and course design should prepare students to become better critical readers of visual media by exploring significant connections among film style, cinematic genres, and historical/cultural contexts.
Minimum Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MA, MFA or PhD)
- At least two years teaching experience.
- Familiarity with a range of film genres and the history of film.
- Ability to assign and critique essays and facilitate the improvement of students’ ability to express their aesthetic points of view.
Compensation: Adjunct Instructor Rate A ($54.43 per contact hour)
