
The Theater Department seeks an Adjunct Instructor to teach the following course during the fall 2008 semester:
“Film History” (TH 264)
Course investigates the historical development of film with emphasis on the aesthetic, social, economic, and institutional forces that affect film production and reception. Students practice interpretive models based on disciplinary approaches from cinema studies, history, and cultural studies. Topics may include American genre cinema, pre-Code Hollywood, the French New Wave, films of the sixties, films of the seventies, and gay and lesbian film. Course may be repeated as topics change.
The course emphasis is on film history, not theory. Pedagogy and course design should prepare students to become better critical readers of visual media by exploring significant connections among film style, cinematic genres, and historical/cultural contexts.
Minimum Qualifications
Compensation: Adjunct Instructor Rate A ($54.43 per contact hour)

Applicants should also include information pertaining to history of teaching in this field and a brief outline of ideas for this specific course. Copies of relevant syllabi may also be submitted.
