Pay Grade: Assistant or Associate Professor ranking, commensurate with education and experience; Full-time
Purpose: To teach three courses per semester in art history and/or critical theory. To assist in the development of theoretical and art historical curriculum within the framework of a studio-intensive BFA program.
Responsibilities:
- Teaches three courses per semester in the following areas: Visual Art History I & II (to both art and design students), contemporary art, critical theory, and own area of specialization.
- Provides assistance in curriculum planning and design as well as in the hire and communication with adjuncts, particularly in the art history curriculum.
- Participates in formal advising and mentorship of students.
- Participates in core faculty institutional service, including: attending departmental faculty meetings and retreats participating in departmental committees participating in campus-wide committees
Minimum Qualifications
- PhD degree in art history
- At least three years of undergraduate teaching experience beyond graduate level
- An interest in working for a College with a primary commitment to teaching
- Ability to design and teach special topic courses
- Demonstrated ability to work closely and compatibly with a diverse student body, faculty, staff and other colleagues
- Ability to demonstrate a conceptual understanding of art history and critical theory within the context of a studio-intensive BFA curriculum.
- The ability to contribute to curriculum planning in the art department
- A broad interest in the visual arts
- A commitment to multicultural perspectives and inquiry
Preferred Qualifications
- Area of specialization, generalist (open) with a broad, relevant pedagogical experience and interest in cultural and historic contexts of art history—important to a liberal arts degree.
- Awareness of contemporary issues in visual art
- Commitment to expanding student understanding in issues of critical theory and academic rigor.
