Greetings from Housing and Residence Life! We think prospective students will be impressed by our residence halls on campus. We encourage prospective students to contact our Admission Office at 206.726.ARTS to schedule a time to visit and tour our spaces.
Admitted students, we’re excited to have you joining our community. At Cornish, all new students are required to live on campus and purchase a meal plan for their first academic year. Additional information and contracts will be mailed to all admitted students by June 1, 2010. Students admitted to Cornish College of the Arts after June 1 can expect housing information to be included with admission materials.
We encourage students to complete and submit the housing and meal plan contract with the $300 housing deposit as soon as possible to confirm their space in the residence halls. Contracts (including deposit) are due at the time the student enrolls in classes or by July 31, 2010, whichever date is earlier. Students admitted after July 31 are encouraged complete and submit their contract and deposit immediately to facilitate room and roommate assignment. The contract and deposit are due no later than 2 weeks after admission for students admitted after July 31.
A new student may apply for a housing and meal plan exemption starting June 1, 2010 if the student meets one or more of the following criteria:
The application for exemption is available below. Exemption paperwork is due to Housing and Residence Life no later than July 31, 2010 or 2 weeks after admission for students admitted after July 31.
2010-2011 Application for Housing and Meal Plan Exemption
Move in for the residence halls begins at 9:00am on Wednesday, September 1. On September 1, housing staff and many Cornish volunteers will be around to assist with the move in process! There is occasionally a need for students to move in prior to the established move in date. Early arrival is only available for students with Cornish specific responsibilities and extenuating circumstances, and an application must be submitted. Please know that submission of an application does not guarantee approval for early arrival. Additionally, early arrivals incur a fee for each added night. Applications must be turned in by July 31st, 2010 to be considered. To request additional information about early arrival, or an early arrival application, please contact Housing & Residence Life.
The residence halls offer a living-learning community in an urban location near our Main Campus Center (MCC), just a few blocks from the heart of downtown Seattle and the Space Needle. Individual rooms are much larger than typical residence hall rooms and each has its own private bath! Additionally, we offer a variety of services, programs, and events designed to promote a developmental and cohesive community.
Research shows that students who live in a residence hall their freshman year are more successful in achieving their educational goals. Full-time incoming freshmen and new transfer students are given priority for residence hall living, however continuing Cornish students are welcome and contribute to our dynamic halls.
All residents must select a meal plan for dining at Nellie’s Café located in the Main Campus Center. Our meal plans are designed with maximum flexibility in mind and operate on a declining balance or debit system. Depending on the plan selected, students begin each semester with a set amount of funds, Cornish Meal Plan dollars, electronically added to their balance. Students then draw down their balance as they purchase food. If students run out of Cornish Meal Plan dollars they can add additional money to their Cornish ID card at any time. Funds roll-over from fall to spring semester; however remaining funds at the end of the academic year are forfeited. More information can be found at http://www.cafebonappetit.com/cornish
We’ve found that this plan is ideal for students who frequently enjoy eating in the Cornish Café. If you are always on campus, have high caloric needs, or frequently take advantage of premium specials, this is the plan for you. It is designed for students who seldom eat off campus. The spending rate assumes a more frequent eater who will often take advantage of the dinner dining hours. The A plan reflects $1500 per semester.
This plan is right for you if you dine less frequently. It is also a good choice if you are looking for a lighter plan and have a spending rate that is fairly average and will now and again take advantage of the dinner dining hours. The B plan reflects $1200 per semester.
This plan is especially in effect for those that live in Cornish residence halls, attend classes at Kerry Hall, and frequently take advantage of breakfast and dinner dining but eat lunch off campus near the Kerry Hall community. It is also a good choice if you are looking for a lighter plan and is only available for Music and Dance students. The C plan reflects $1100 per semester.
On-site parking is available at both residence halls on a first come, first served basis. Students are able to request a parking permit ($300 per Semester for 2010-2011 academic year) at Summer Registration in June and July. Keep in mind that most students find public transportation excellent for getting around Seattle and Student Affairs provides a subsidy of $25 per month to help offset the cost of public transportation.
The College offers a shuttle service throughout the day between the multiple campus locations. Each semester the shuttle schedule is revised based on class schedules. The Registrar’s Office coordinates the shuttle schedule.
Cornish Housing and Residence Life staff is here to assist you! We help students transition to college life by building strong communities and fostering individual development. A staff member is available in 24 hours a day, every day!
Each semester the Office of Housing and Residence Life hosts a variety of student programs and events. What we offer is up to you as a community member. Everything from open-mic nights, to a night out on the town dancing, educational and social events make our communities the vibrant spaces students love! Cornish Student Interest Groups (SIGs) also host campus-wide programs that residents are encouraged to attend.
Residence Hall Art Council is a student run organization which is open to all students living in the residence halls. RHAC serves as an advocacy group on behalf of residents and students, a programming board to create fun, social and educational events for residents, as well as a group to make positive change at Cornish and within Housing and Residence Life.
