Backstage Benefit

Friday, April 11, 2014
6:00 pm — 6:00 pm

Cornish Playhouse at Seattle Center, 201 Mercer Street Seattle, WA 98109

Join us for our annual Backstage Benefit event which celebrates the exceptional talent of our students while supporting the Cornish Scholarship Fund.

This year, the Backstage Benefit centers around our spring musical production of The Secret Garden – based on the famed 1911 book of the same name. This Tony Award-winning production will be staged and performed by students in the Cornish Performance Production and Theater departments.

The benefit begins with a backstage reception where guests will be able to peruse the sketches and drawings that eventually developed into the sets and costumes for the production – all produced by students. Director Timothy Piggee will also share the opportunities and challenges of producing something of this scale for presentation at the famed Playhouse.

Guests will then have reserved seating for the show inside the famed Playhouse.

About the The Secret Garden This enchanting classic of children's literature is re-imagined in brilliant musical style by composer Lucy Simon and Marsha Norman, the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright of 'Night Mother. Orphaned in India, Mary Lennox returns to Yorkshire to live with her embittered, reclusive uncle Archibald and his invalid son Colin. The estate's many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies. The 1991 Broadway production won three Tony Awards, including Best Book of a Musical.

If you would like to receive an invitation to the Backstage Benefit, please call the Office of Institutional Advancement at 206.726.5064.
