Sunday, January 31, 7:30 pm
Wayne Horvitz’ These Hills of Glory featuring clarinet soloist Beth Fleenor (Music ’04) and odeonquartet
with special guest Figeater

In conjunction with the esteemed NEA American Masterpieces: Chamber Music program, this performance is the second incarnation of Horvitz’ These Hills of Glory for string quartet and improvising soloist.

In addition to the Horivtz piece, the program will include a new string quartet by Robin Holcomb, and an entire set of “neo-chamber avant noise jazz” ensemble Figeater.

“Led by clarinetist Beth Fleenor, Figeater make improvised music that ranges from insistently propulsive and buoyant - Fleenor can channel the spirit of Raymond Scott with aplomb - to aloof atmospheres, thugged-up backbeats, and loony, melismatic rants.”
- The Stranger

This performance is made possible through generous support from NEA American Masterpieces and Earshot Jazz

Spectrum Dance Theatre presents
Farewell: a fantastical contemplation on America’s relationship with China
Music by faculty Byron Au Yong
The Moore Theater
Feb 18-20, 8 pm

http://spectrumdance.org/

Farewell: a fantastical contemplation on America’s relationship with China will be a full-length original dance theater production that explores key human rights and economic issues involving the United States and China.

Farewell represents Year II of Spectrum’s ground-breaking three-year Initiative, Beyond Dance: Promoting Awareness and Mutual Understanding (PAMU). PAMU brings collaborators from across the nation and world to create dance theater pieces that examine issues relating to personal liberty, freedom, security and social justice.

Through text, music, highly personal movement, and choreography created by Spectrum’s artistic director Donald Byrd—in collaboration with Spectrum’s world-class company dancers—Farewell will be a feverish, dreamlike theatrical meditation.
