Super Strings is a week of string fun for ages 11 to 17, starting with classical chamber music mornings, and then rock and electric string playing, fiddle, eurythmics and improvisation in the afternoon with bass guitar lessons for the whole camp. This summer we are adding Beat Boxing!
Classical music coaches include Cornish faculty and Pacific Northwest Ballet Concertmaster Michael Jinsoo Lim, Mara Gearman, violist from the Seattle Symphony, Annie Center, violist and renowned chamber musician, Steve Cresswell, string coach at Lakeside School, Paige Stockley, Cornish cello faculty and founder of the St. Helens String Quartet, and Steve Schermer, bass player for the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra. Afternoon faculty will be Alex Guy, violist from the band Led to the Sea, Brandon Vance, national Scottish Fiddle Champion, Kathy Moore, well known Seattle rock guitarist, and early music specialist Jessica Korotkin from Oberlin Conservatory. Everyone will get a chance to learn beat boxing with bass player Isaac Castillo. No experience is necessary for the rock, fiddle and improv classes of the camp and mornings will be filled with the classics from Dvorak to Bach to Mozart.
Middle to high school students, ages 11-17, with basic skills in reading music should enroll.
Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm with a break for lunch, and a concluding performance scheduled for Saturday, July 29 in PONCHO Concert Hall on the Cornish campus.
None. Open for enrollment to students, ages 11-17 with basic skills in reading music and developing facility on their chosen string instrument.
