Jazz Voice at Cornish is designed specifically for young singers interested in learning about jazz and contemporary vocal styles. The workshop provides students with an opportunity to develop as artists through daily collaboration with professional musicians in the industry and the nationally renowned vocal faculty at Cornish College of the Arts. The week encompasses the full spectrum of the singer's art: vocal technique, interpretation, improvisation, performance techniques, and special topics. Singers will leave the week with a clearer understanding of what is required to be a jazz singer in today's world.
Jazz Voice at Cornish allows singers to:
Experience singing for other students in a masterclass setting.
Learn to work with a professional rhythm section.
Develop confidence performing onstage.
Experience how movement, acting techniques, and stage presence affect performance.
Gain a deeper understanding and command of vocal technique.
Learn and sing solo jazz repertoire, as well as ensemble repertoire.
Have time to practice and take private lessons if desired (for an additional fee).
This class track provides the perfect follow up to the Voice 101 course the week prior which provides a solid vocal technique foundation.
The workshop has been designed for talented high school and college singers, ages 14-25.
Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm with a break for lunch, and a concluding performance scheduled for Saturday, July 16 at 3:00pm in PONCHO Concert Hall on the Cornish campus.
Open for enrollment to students ages 14-25 without an audition.
