This ten-day intensive is designed for composers, age 14-19, seeking to develop their skills composing for acoustic instruments, specifically chamber ensembles. The course will combine master classes, individual instruction, composing assignments and group seminars. Students will be encouraged to broaden their musical language, increase their knowledge of theory and orchestration, and develop techniques for facilitating the creative process.
The class will include an overview of classical music styles with an emphasis on 20th century music, but will also include a discussion of American music styles, including jazz, as elements of the composers vocabulary. Proper notation and the use of music notation software will be discussed as well.
