Uscher Book Highlighted in “Careers in Music”
: "Your Own Way in Music: A Career and Resource Guide" by Nancy J. Uscher, Ph.D..
Lisa Canning has put together a comprehensive list of books to guide musicians to a career; President Nancy Uscher’s book among them.
One of the vital concerns of a college is, of course, the success of its graduates. That means putting them in touch with the possibilities for a career. For students in music, blogger Lisa Canning has put together an exhaustive list of books to guide recent graduates looking to make it as a musician. Featured in the list is a book by a violist with an extensive musical and academic resume, Cornish president, Dr. Nancy J. Uscher. Her book is titled Your Own Way in Music: A Career and Resource Guide.
Writing for the Library Journal, Kathleen Sparkman of Baylor University writes: “Violist Uscher here presents a practical, no-nonsense guide for musicians interested in advancing their careers. … Enlivened by accounts of Uscher’s own experiences, the text covers such topics as what to expect in auditions, seeking support from various organizations, marketing, recording, and even executive search firms.“
Dr. Uscher was the also author of an earlier guide, The Schirmer Guide to Schools of Music & Conservatories Throughout the World.
