Octavio Solis, whose play El Paso Blue was performed at Cornish on October 28, came from San Francisco to lead a talkback session about the content of his piece. Solis’ play is set in El Paso, Texas and is about a man who gets out of jail to learn that his wife has run off with his father. Border politics, immigration, assimilation, loss of culture, dislocation, supernatural occurrences, and revenge are some of the themes. Several Humanities and Sciences classes were in attendance, whose class topics and discussions related to the content of Solis’ work, and students also conversed with Solis about playwriting and sociopolitical themes in art.
