Mark January 11 on your calendar if you’re a high school student in art and design: it’s the perfect time to meet with art colleges from around the country at National Portfolio Day at Cornish.
On Saturday, January 11, National Portfolio Day (NPD) will be held at Cornish for Seattle and the Northwest. High school students in art and design from the NW region are encouraged to attend and show their portfolios to representatives from NPD-member colleges of the arts. Neither an examination or a competition, NPD “brings students together with experienced college representatives who review artwork, offer critique, discuss college plans, and share information about their programs.” It costs nothing to attend and no reservation is necessary.
Meeting your future college of art is as easy as showing up. In fact, the only thing difficult about National Portfolio Day is coming to an understanding that it’s not actually a single day, but a “day” that happens over and over again at member schools around the country for several months. For high school students in the Pacific Northwest, the easiest NPD to catch will be at Cornish this Saturday, January 11. Sign up starts at 10:00 a.m. at Cornish’s Main Campus Center in downtown Seattle, at 1000 Lenora Street. Portfolio reviews will take place between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
At the NPD, high School students of all grade levels can meet representatives of 37 NPD member schools, including California College of the Arts, California Institute of the Arts, Columbus College of Art & Design, Maryland Institute College of Art, Parsons, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Rhode Island School of Design, San Francisco Art Institute, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, The Cooper Union School of Art, The University of the Arts and Virginia Commonwealth University.
A vital word to those providing transport for students taking part in NPD at Cornish: the playoff game between the Seattle Seahawks and the New Orleans Saints will be shown on a flat screen TV in the school café, Nellie’s.
National Portfolio Day at Cornish is presented by National Portfolio Day Association and Cornish College of the Arts.
