Cornish Playhouse Launches Its First-ever Arts Incubator Residency
Applications Due June 9, 2014

SEATTLE, WA – April 9, 2014

What Is the Arts Incubator Residency?
Cornish College of the Arts and the Cornish Playhouse are pleased to announce the creation of the Arts Incubator Residency program—a new residency program for artists interested in risk-taking, collaboration, and the creation of new work.
The Arts Incubator Residency program at Cornish Playhouse will give artists the opportunity to come together to create art that falls outside the boundaries of their primary genres, disciplines or comfort zones. The Arts Incubator Residencies will give artists the time and space to develop new work without the pressure of producing a final, polished product.
Nine groups of artists will be selected to participate in the Arts Incubator Residency program.  Participating artists will receive free rental space at the Cornish Playhouse for exploring, rehearsing, and further developing their ideas. Residencies will take place between October 2014 and March 2015.  Residencies will be of varying lengths, lasting from three days to one month, depending on the needs of the project. The Arts Incubator Residency program is part of Cornish Playhouse’s commitment to creating opportunities for access and engagement with the Seattle community.

About Cornish Playhouse
The Cornish Playhouse at Seattle Center is a vibrant theatrical and educational facility. A landmark of modern architecture built for the World’s Fair of 1962 and now operated by Cornish College of the Arts as its most high-profile venue, the Playhouse presents a full range of professional and student performing arts productions. With its 478-seat main auditorium, its 150-seat, its black-box theater and its generous forecourt and lobby, the Cornish Playhouse and its professional partners offer rich experiences not only in theater but also in dance, music and the visual arts.

About Cornish College of the Arts
A pioneer in arts education, Cornish College of the Arts sprang from the remarkable vision of Nellie Cornish, a woman determined to cultivate the arts in Seattle when it was scarcely more than a frontier town. Her philosophy of educating the artist through exposure to all the arts was progressive in 1914, and continues to be innovative today. The College offers Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Art, Dance, Design, Performance Production and Theater, a Bachelor of Music degree and an Artist Diploma in Early Music.  The College is accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design.

About Seattle Center
Seattle Center creates exceptional events, experiences and environments that delight and inspire the human spirit to build stronger communities.
