The theater writers for Seattle Times have announced their Footlight Awards for 2013; multiple alumni and faculty are represented.
“Musicals of all stripes and sizes, superb design effects and a strong array of contemporary dramas marked 2013 in Seattle theater,” begins the announcement of Footlight Award winners in the Seattle Times. The awards are decided upon by the paper’s theater critic, Misha Berson, along with its stable of freelance theater writers. Once again, Cornish alumni and faculty are well represented.
In the Top Mainstage Plays category was The Hound of the Baskervilles (Seattle Repertory Theatre) whose cast and crew included Connor Toms (TH ‘01) and Brian Fauska (PP ‘96-‘00, Technical Director).
In Best New Musicals was Stu for Silverton (Intiman) featuring Chelsea Callahan (TH ‘14), Ben Wippel (TH ‘13) and Drew Combs (TH ‘14), while Melanie Burgess, PP faculty, was the costume designer and Chelsea Blum (PP ‘05) was costume shop manager.
Great Performances included Emily Chisholm (TH ‘04) in Sugar Daddies at ACT.
Great Performances (Musicals) included Don Darryl Rivera (TH’05) in Illyria at Taproot.
Dazzling Designs included performance production faculty member Jennifer Lupton (Pippi Longstocking).
In the Fresh Faces, Rosy Futures category as a “splendid young player” was Hannah Mootz (TH ‘11, Bo-Nita, Seattle Rep).
Last and, these days, certainly not least: Hardest-working Guy in Heels in Seattle/New York Show Biz went to “Drag actor extraordinaire” Jerick Hoffer/Jinkx Monsoon (TH ‘10, Hairspray at 5th Avenue, Hedwig and the Angry Inch at Moore Theatre, RuPaul’s Drag Race on TV) “and a slew of other shows here and in the Big Apple.” That “slew” included The Vaudevillians at the Cornish Playhouse and in a subsequent extended run off-Broaddway and holiday show The Vaudevillians: Unwrapped, also at the Playhouse.
