On Tuesday, September 7, 2011 at the official opening of the academic year, a new tradition was begun with the signing of the Book of Commitment, which contains the Cornish Diversity Statement and Mission Statement.
The book was presented to the assembly by Adrienne Bolyard, Registrar and Dr. Lois A. Harris, Provost and statements were read by Jenisa Ubben (AR ‘13) and Shannon Bryn (DE ‘14) from the Student Leadership Council. The book was passed through the aisles for students and faculty to sign their names in a pledge of commitment.
The program included John Gordon Hill, chair of the Cornish Board of Trustees; Theater Chair Richard E.T. White; the Jovino Santos Neto Jazz Trio (Jovino Santos Neto, Piano; Chuck Deardorf, Bass; Jeff Busch, Drums); and “Bring Me to The Light” from the musical Violet, performed by theater students Chelsea Callahan, Adam Canne, Michael Eber, Sara Henley-Hicks, Annie Rose Kater, Jeanna Keating, Skylar Kovach, Jeffery Maxwell, Anthony Phillips and Joshua Valencia who were accompanied by Mark Rabe and directed by Fran Brown.
