SUNDAY ONLY: Two Cornish faculty members, Ellen Forney and Kathleen Collins, to run interactive workshop in comics and theater.
Scratch Night: Artist in Residence Ellen Forney. Cartoonist Ellen Forney, Seattle Town Hall’s artist-in-residence for fall 2013 and a member of Cornish’s design department , will join forces with Cornish theater professor Kathleen Collins to guide an interactive workshop on cartooning and theater. The dynamic working will explore the analogous skills and concepts that fuel these apparently disparate artistic mediums.
Scratch Night is free to the public and will take place Sunday, October 20, 2013, 7:30 – 9:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. In the Great Hall, Seattle Town Hall, 1119 8th Ave.
The workshop is presented by Town Hall as part of the Arts & Culture series, with University Book Store. It is sponsored by City Arts.
Forney and Collins come to their subject believing there exists a great overlap of cartooning and theater. “There’s so much acting in comics!” Forney says. “A cartoonist has to be the writer, director, and all the actors – just on paper.”
“Kathleen and I are so excited to be leading this workshop together,” continues Forney.
“No matter your preferred medium/practice,” reads Town Hall’s site, “performance, literary, visual arts — breaching traditional boundaries enriches our experience of creating and understanding.”
Attendees are asked to “bring a sketchbook and your favorite pen or pencil, and wear comfy clothes.”
Tickets: Admission is free, but RSVPs are encouraged. Town Hall member benefits: Priority seating.
