Faculty and Visiting Artists

Cornish Dance Theater

At Cornish College of the Arts, the faculty are all professionals who "do" as well as teach. They know what it takes to succeed in dance and are eager to share their knowledge with you. Faculty members carefully monitor your progress and regularly meet with you to offer advice. Our Dance Department is headed by Kathryn "Kitty" Daniels, who is nationally known as a teacher of ballet and dance anatomy. Core faculty include Pat Hon, Wade Madsen, Lodi McClellan, Michelle Miller, Gérard Théorêt and Deborah Wolf.

Classes with visiting artists enhance the curriculum and expose students to aesthetic perspectives not represented among the permanent faculty. The Dance Department sponsors visiting artist residencies and master classes each year with some of the nation's leading dance artists, including recent choreographic residencies with Donald McKayle, Bill Evans, Lynn Simonson, Sean Curran, David Dorfman, Bebe Miller, Ralph Lemon, Kraig Patterson, and Joe Goode. Other recent guest artists include Ron Brown, Liz Lerman, Alonzo King, Twyla Tharp, Elizabeth Streb, Glen Eddy, Donald Byrd, Steve Paxton, Brenda Buffalino, Felix Ruckert, Lisa Race, Jennifer Tipton, Carla Maxwell, Abby Yager, Gabriel Masson, David Gordon and Donlin Foreman. Dance students also participate in master classes with touring companies that perform in Seattle. (See Seattle Dance)
