Queen Shmooquan, I OWN ME

Through March 16, 2014

Velocity Dance Center [website]
1621 12th Avenue, Seattle, WA

The sensational super-real hero and renowned Modern Day Oracle, Queen Shmooquan, presents a new evening length multi-media theater piece in which she dances, sings, eats, and heals her way through a psychedelic, hilarious expedition full of unusual story lines and prophetic messages. Vacillating between the mundane and surreal, Queen Shmooquan played by Jeppa K. Hall (TH), must travail the seductive chasm of modern self-reinvention, the suffocation of pop-culture media, the farts of fascist forces, and the impending doom of environmental collapse.

The story takes place in Queen Shmooquan’s room, which transforms into magical and surreal landscapes with the assistance of video projections by video artist Joe Plotts and original music by the Queen herself. From this dynamic foundation, the Queen a master shape-shifter, transforms from her lucid plain talking self into ethereal and more often than not, unusual embodiment's of American mass culture and the greater world around her.

Queen Shmooquan can also be seen on January 24 at The Pink Door.
