Opening Reception for the artist Thursday, October 3, 6:00 – 8:00 pm
Lisa Harris Gallery is pleased to present Northwest Land, Sea, and Sky, an exhibition of recent landscape paintings by Thomas Wood (AR '74) inspired by distinctive Northwest scenery. Wood will attend the First Thursday reception, October 3rd, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The exhibition manifests Wood’s range of solidified styles—encompassing the visionary, the Romantic, and the abstract. In this body of work the sky takes on a new significance, offering the sumptuous drama of color and ample space for Wood’s distinctive brushwork. Spheres of light pulse beyond the shadows of pines. Geometric forms materialize within the landscape’s natural forms. Gray beach scenes are tinged with a Romantic melancholy. The rocks, trees, and bleached driftwood logs take on personas that are both stately and embody a mysterious, figurative quality.
Included in numerous institutional and private collections nationwide, Thomas Wood is an established painter and award-winning printmaker who has been exhibited nationally and internationally. His works have been shown frequently within the Pacific Northwest where he has resided since the early 1970s. A native of Richland, Washington, graduate of Fairhaven College of Western Washington University, and former Cornish student, Wood has been represented by Lisa Harris Gallery since 1987.
