Today's academic standards in the study of the origins of foreign cultures are significantly below those in other developed nations. Due to curriculums that focus heavily on the history of the United States, little allowance is left for any in depth exposure to the heritage of foreign countries or civilizations. In a country that is as diverse and multi-cultural as ours, the narrow scope of our study is disappointing. Interactions between cultures occur on a daily basis. History curriculums in our public schools should match that exposure. This will allow children to gain a basic knowledge in the foundations of a culture in order to ultimately understand the motivations of that society today.
I have always taken a deep personal interest in ancient culture. As a graphic designer I will combine that knowledge and interest to design an educational program for elementary school students. The interactive program will allow children to cultivate an awareness and understanding for a culture to which they are not normally exposed.
