There is a certain freedom that is expressed and is greatly needed in society that is not attained in art that is done for consumption and galleries, and is found on the walls that we pass by everyday. When we take our censors out of the picture, even for just a fleeting moment, we can reach pure and raw expression.
Buff marks are the areas painted over graffiti that create a shape of their own due to incorrect paint shades or different mediums used to cover it up. To me they embody a dialogue that is constant, current, and progressing everyday. I have used these as a representation of censorship, personal or environmental (what ever that may be; city, government, corporations, or you as your own personal censor). It may be quiet and even unnoticed to most, but if you look, these conversations are happening on the city walls all around.
