Pattern plays an important role in my art. It softens the edges of
loaded content and creates a dialogue between the superficial
aesthetic of a piece and how its content addresses the nature of
beauty.
I explore this dynamic balance through the use of Victorian
advertisements for medicine, fashion and beauty supplies, using the
nineteenth century context to examine our reality.
The delicate surfaces of my images also make a dark message stronger
when contrasted with their saccharine imagery. These disarmingly
beautiful surfaces examine beauty itself.
