When I imagine my future, I think about my past. Memories and thoughts occur unexpectedly, and childhood memories can sometimes haunt adults as events fade with time.

I create art inspired by the simplicity, magic, and elegance in our lives. I explore the poignancy of childhood, wanting to understand the world from the child’s perspective. I also search for moments in adult lives that reveal the child within.

In my photographs, I have adorned adults by placing cutout paper “crowns” on their heads that create little worlds, existing as a shared moment. This evokes the ghost of a memory that would otherwise be intangible.

In my etchings and woodblock prints I illustrate a respect for children by giving their complex emotions and small and often overlooked actions a place to become important. By using layers of color and intricate lines I am able to show the precious details of a child’s world.

Through these media I explore nostalgia. I express awe for the imaginations of children and the wishes of adults, with all of their dreams, fears and joy.
