Early in the morning, with a video camera in hand, I seek a sunrise. I watch the clouds move as pure visual meditation. I soak in the subtle movements as the clouds evolve and color shifts in the sky from deep purple to blue. I find solace in this experience of nature, knowing the sky can never be paved over.

My art is inspired by the natural world and is an emotionally charged response to human manipulation of the land. It is an observation of human appreciation vs. depreciation of the world around us in this technologically advanced, recycled world and how we are consciously polluting ourselves. The initial context in each piece may seem meditative and beautiful, but hopefully as the viewer spends time with the image, they will notice that the clouds are remnants of jet stream pollution and the man-made structures are not built in accordance with the natural landscape. I want the viewer to think about why our natural world is deteriorating so fast. I seek out landscapes that are already communicating the emotion that I want to convey. The images express feelings of isolation, abandonment, trespassing, exploration, misuse and exploitation due to a commonality with human emotion and the history of the land.

The blue in the atmosphere settles into deep purple once more and the clouds radiate a hint of pink. The clouds eventually disperse, leaving soft purple streaks in the sky. My environmental concern is triggered once more and the translation to canvas, paper, lens or screen is an immediate, emotive response.
