Robert Rhee is a mixed media sculptor whose work and collaborations have included sculpture, performance, printmaking, video, and self published books. Working across a variety of media his work often insinuates a history and a purpose into the undervalued detritus of contemporary life. He uses found objects that are semi-antique: a beer bottle, an animal cage, or a dime-a-dozen glass jug, as well as unabashed trash: fruit rinds, used tin foil, and vegetable peels, to re-enchant the material of everyday life with a sense of possibility and of wonder.
Robert received his Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Yale University and his Master’s degree in Visual Art from Columbia University. Robert has exhibited his work widely at such institutions as the Ilmin Museum of Art in Seoul, the Arario Gallery, the Dorsky Gallery and the Fisher Landau Center in New York, the Hunterdon Museum in New Jersey, the Virginia Commonwealth University Gallery in Richmond, Galerie Ferdinand Van Dieten in Amsterdam, and the Seungsan Art Hall in Korea, for the 2011 Changwon Biennial.
