Tour with Macklemore, record deal, EP release, Grammy nominations and now an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno: Mary Lambert is breaking big.

Try keeping her out of the news! Just this past Friday, Mary Lambert (MU ’11) could check off another important box on her climb to stardom, an appearance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno on NBC (video below). Featured on this site little more than a month ago for her Grammy nominations for her part in Macklemore’s hit song, Same Love, and album, The Heist, Lambert is back with more big news. Not only was she gigging on NBC, she recently appeared in People magazine and in several interviews, as well as signing a record deal and releasing an EP.

On Leno, Lambert performed the extension of her part in Same Love, now a stand-alone tune called She Keeps Me Warm. She accompanied herself on piano and was backed up by a rhythm section, a backup singer and a bank of strings. NBC sprang for a very nice set in warm lavender-based hues set off with amber tones.

It wasn’t just any rhythm section, as music chair Kent Devereaux notes. “Cornish is well represented with Lena Simon (MU ‘10) on drums, Maiah Manser (MU ‘11-12) on back-up vocals, and current seniors Jon Small on bass and Seth May-Patterson on viola.”

Lambert’s new EP is titled Welcome to the Age of My Body, released by Capitol Records, the label she signed with recently. Find a big splashy treatment of Mary on the Capitol Records site (wait for her panel in the slide show). It’s an EP for now, Mary wrote in December, but it will be “followed by a full-length album, produced by Eric Rosse (Tori Amos, Sara Bareilles), next year.” Which is to say, this spring of 2014. Lambert writes that the song “peaked at No. 2 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart.”

Expect to see Mary at the Grammy Award show on January 26, airing on CBS.

A video of the Tonight Show, including Mary Lambert, can be viewed below or by using a direct link; Mary Lambert is featured in the last sequence, at 36:15. Incidentally, more good news for Mary, as shown by the placeholder pic for this video: her separation from Kevin Bacon has jumped from six degrees all the way to one.
