Brief highlights of interesting alumni news and announcements from the past month or so with links to external articles, websites and videos provided.

Every week Alumni Relations receives all sorts of leads on interesting alumni news. So much, in fact, that it doesn’t all fit into the main news feed on the Cornish homepage, nor is it all necessarily appropriate for the Alumni Events Calendar.

In an effort to better share the great press you all receive and the announcements you want to make, every couple of weeks Alumni Relations will post a brief article highlighting alumni in the news, press releases, upcoming projects and other exciting developments.

The Seattle Weekly staff names the musical artists that Will Shape Seattle in 2014, Cornish well-represented with Lena Simon (MU ’11) and Iska Dhaaf’s Nathan Quiroga (TH).

City Arts staff name Sharon Arnold (AR ‘06) and Markeith Wiley (DA) as two of their 12 artists and innovators for 2014.

Chloe Allred (AR ’13) launches “To Be Brave: Ending Body Shame”,  a moving new series of paintings inspired by interviews of women with histories of eating disorders, sexual assault, and body shame.  Support and learn more about Chloe’s work on “To Be Brave”.

Paurl Walsh (MU ’05) very recently digitally released the score he composed for Ezra Dickinson’s (DA ‘07) beautiful solo dance work, “Mother for you I made this”. Paurl wrote this score with the intention of it being listened to on headphones, as it accompanied Ezra’s performance outdoors on crowded downtown Seattle streets. Stream the whole album online or support Paurl’s work by purchasing it today.

Music alumnus Brent Arnold (MU ’94) featured by VICE in the article, “Louis CK Can’t Remember Cellist Brent Arnold’s Name, But You Will”.

THEESatisfaction’s Cat Harris-White (MU ’08) one of four highlighted black artists in The Stranger feature article, “Why Black Weirdos Are Real and a Postracial Society Is Not: THEESatisfaction Provide a New Socially Meaningful Way of Thinking About Race in Our Times”.

New Releases From Paul Kikuchi and Tiffany Lin’s (MU 08)  Prefecture Music; The Seattle Phonographers, Greg Sinibaldi and Jesse Canterbury.
