Letter from the President
Sergei P. Tschernisch
Cornish is a school like no other. It is an intimate community of artists, representing six different disciplines, who work together, influence one another, and grow tremendously. It is a school that is uniquely prepared to help you launch a career as a professional artist. At Cornish you will hone your creative and collaborative skills using top-notch facilities and equipment. You’ll carry those skills with you for the rest of your working life. And you’ll learn what you may encounter in that life from faculty members who are working artists themselves.
Cornish College of the Arts is a vibrant community of artists who work together in a supportive and challenging environment. Students at Cornish are engaged in a dialogue of learning that is diverse in philosophy, filled with passion and professionalism, and focused on the expression of the individual. A rigorous education takes place in an atmosphere that encourages experimentation even as it provides students with the fundamental technical skills that form the base from which work of excellence can emerge.
Through your experiences at Cornish you’ll be able to join the larger artistic community in Seattle – a city well known for its celebration of the arts. Cornish faculty, alumni and students are amply represented in arts organizations around the city. Perhaps you’ll work with a local theater or participate in a nearby gallery’s group show. Or, in the true pioneering spirit of Nellie Cornish, you may decide to launch your own creative endeavor.
At Cornish you’ll have an opportunity to work harder then you ever have before. To show more dedication to your craft than you thought possible. Class sizes are small, so your active participation is mandatory. It will be rigorous – but your efforts will be rewarded with the knowledge that you are a professionally trained artist, fully prepared for an illustrious career in your chosen field.
